About Roger Ray
I am a school media specialist, educator, writer, and graduate student in the Master of Library and Information Science program at the University of South Florida. My professional background includes classroom teaching, school library work, student writing support, collection development, educational technology, and advocacy for public education. Before becoming a media specialist, I taught English language arts, including advanced and dual enrollment courses, experiences that continue to shape the way I think about literacy, access, research, and student voice.
I also enjoy projects that bring creativity and systems thinking together. In my school media work, that includes developing library programming, organizing student media roles, creating book displays, supporting digital tools, and building practical resources for teachers. Outside of school, I write reviews of independent games, especially MLM-centered games, where I think critically about representation, audience, storytelling, access, and community. That work connects closely to my LIS interests because it involves curation, reader and player advisory, metadata, discoverability, inclusive media, and helping people find materials that reflect their interests and identities.
As a media specialist, I see the school library as more than a room of books. It is an instructional space, a technology hub, a community space, and a place where students can build curiosity, independence, and confidence. My work focuses on connecting students and teachers with resources that are meaningful, accessible, and useful. I am especially interested in intellectual freedom, inclusive collections, digital literacy, ethical leadership, and the role of libraries in supporting democratic and equitable access to information.
