Artificial Intelligence: Transforming Life and LIS

Best Learning Outcome Match:

II.c. Students understand and use appropriate information technology for information services.

Artifact Explainer:

This infographic examines generative artificial intelligence as an emerging technology within library and information science. The project explains large language models, compares different data access models, and describes current uses of AI, including question answering, writing support, translation, summarization, image generation, coding, and personalized feedback. It also considers how AI is already being used in LIS settings, such as chatbots for basic patron questions and catalog assistance.

I selected this artifact for Outcome II.c because it demonstrates my engagement with information technology as both a practical tool and a professional challenge. The infographic considers future LIS applications such as AI-supported reference services, metadata creation, accessibility tools, digital preservation, and predictive analytics. It also addresses the ethical responsibilities LIS professionals will need to manage, including misinformation, privacy, bias, transparency, and alignment with library values. In that sense, the artifact shows not only technological awareness, but also the kind of professional judgment needed when using technology in information services.
