An exploration of multicultural and diverse literature for children and young adults, with emphasis on representation, authenticity, cultural context, and inclusive collection development. The course examined how literature can provide both mirrors of students’ own experiences and windows into the lives and perspectives of others.

Book Lists

A collection of curated book lists highlighting cultural identities, communities, and lived experiences across a range of perspectives. Each list was designed as a practical resource for collection development, reader advisory, and connecting young readers with books that broaden representation within the school library.

Book Evaluations

A series of critical book evaluations examining literature representing different cultures, identities, and lived experiences. Each review considers literary quality, cultural representation, audience, and potential use within a school library collection.

Teaching Resource

A lower-elementary lesson plan designed to support respectful discussion of different family beliefs through literature. The lesson combines a read-aloud, guided discussion, standards-based activities, reflection, and supplementary book recommendations focused on safety, kindness, and religious tolerance.
