Artifact Overview
For this assignment, I designed a metadata schema for motion pictures using established standards including Dublin Core and Schema.org. I selected appropriate metadata elements, determined whether each should be required or repeatable, justified those decisions, and then applied the schema by creating a complete metadata record for The Godfather. The project emphasized the role of standardized metadata in supporting resource description, discovery, and consistent information retrieval.
This artifact aligns with Goal III.a because it demonstrates my understanding of how metadata standards structure information resources for discovery and access. Rather than simply applying an existing schema, I evaluated which descriptive elements were most appropriate for the resource, justified my design decisions, and implemented the schema in a practical example. The assignment strengthened my understanding of how metadata supports consistent organization and user access across information systems.
