Artifact Overview
This assignment evaluated the Hillsborough County Public Library Cooperative’s Strategic Plan 2020 Vision as both a public-facing vision document and a strategic planning tool. I examined the plan’s mission, community engagement process, service priorities, goals, implementation structure, and assessment measures, identifying strengths such as extensive patron planning participation and a clear commitment to access, intellectual freedom, lifelong learning, and community service. I also identified areas where the plan could be strengthened, particularly through clearer objectives, implementation timelines, financial planning, accountability measures, and methods for assessing progress.
I selected this artifact for Outcome I.a because it demonstrates my ability to critically evaluate an existing organizational plan rather than simply describe its contents. The assignment required me to consider what makes strategic planning effective, identify gaps between broad organizational aspirations and measurable implementation, and reflect on how planning decisions affect library services and accountability. This process strengthened my ability to examine organizational systems critically, identify practical problems, and consider how those systems might be improved.
