Artifact Overview
This lesson plan was designed for a second-grade media center lesson supporting an expository writing assignment. The lesson teaches students how to use the HCPS virtual library catalog and MyON digital library to locate one physical and one digital nonfiction source related to their writing topic. It includes standards, instructional goals, resources, step-by-step teaching activities, student practice, and assessment evidence.
I selected this artifact for Outcome II.c because it demonstrates the use of information technology to support student research and information access. The lesson introduces young learners to two major digital tools available through the school district: the library catalog and MyON. By modeling searches, helping students locate physical and digital texts, and connecting those resources to classroom writing, the lesson shows how technology can be used purposefully within library instruction. It also reflects the role of the school media specialist in helping students build early research habits and become more confident users of information systems.
